Frequently Asked Questions
Are Omission Ultimate Beers and Non-Alcoholic Brews Gluten Free?
All Omission products are brewed with malted barley, hops, water, and yeast, but the gluten is reduced post brewing process. Once the products are transferred to the fermentation tanks, we add a brewing enzyme called Brewers Clarex™ which breaks apart the gluten protein chains. The Ultimate Beers and Non-Alcoholic Brews are then packaged in a closed environment to eliminate any cross-contamination risk. A growing body of peer reviewed scientific literature supports that our process is effective in the reduction of gluten peptides. Each batch of Omission is tested both internally and by an independent lab using the R5 Competitive ELISA for gluten content. To date, every batch of Omission has measured at levels less than 20ppm. Although there is scientific evidence supporting this testing, the evidence is not conclusive.
Are Omission Ultimate Beers and Non-Alcoholic Brews tested for gluten?
Our testing protocol provides multiple data points for every batch tested by corroborating our in-house lab results against an independent laboratory. This method is the R5 Competitive ELISA and it has been validated by reputable scientific organizations— the AACC International and the American Society of Brewing Chemists— for testing gluten in fermented foods and beverages. The R5 Competitive ELISA is the best available analytical method to quantify gluten in fermented products. Although existing evidence supports that gluten levels are greatly reduced in our beers, the current test for measuring gluten has not been scientifically validated.
How is gluten reduced from Omission Ultimate Beers and Non-Alcoholic Brews?
Omission Ultimate Beers and Non-Alcoholic Brews are brewed just like other great craft beers, with malted barley, hops, water, and yeast. Once the products are ready for the fermentation tanks, we add a brewing enzyme called Brewers Clarex™ which breaks apart the gluten protein chains. Omission Ultimate Beers and Non-Alcoholic Brews are then packaged in a closed environment to eliminate any cross-contamination risk.
Are Omission products brewed with sorghum, buckwheat, rice, tapioca, or quinoa?
No - Omission products are brewed with only barley malt, hops, water and yeast.
Are Omission Ultimate Beers and Non-Alcoholic Brews available on draught?
Currently Omission Ultimate Beers and Non-Alcoholic brews are not packaged in kegs. In order to ensure that the integrity of all Omission products is maintained until it is served, the beer is only available in bottles and cans. We want to avoid any cross-contamination risks and the possibility of being accidentally served a pint of beer other than the Omission that was ordered.
How long have Omission beers been brewed?
Omission beers have been brewed and packaged since 2012.
Why is Omission no longer in bottles? Is the liquid within still the same?
Omission Balanced Brewing has transitioned all products to cans to fit a more active and balanced lifestyle. Ultimate Golden Ale is the same great tasting golden ale and Omission Ultimate IPA is now better balanced and packaged in cans to be highly transportable.
Why can I no longer find my Omission Pale Ale or Lager?
Omission Pale Ale and Lager will no longer be in the market starting in the summer of 2022. We encourage you to try some of our other great tasting, better-balanced, full-flavored beers such as Ultimate Golden Ale, Ultimate IPA or new Ultimate Wheat Ale. See more information about our new Ultimate Beers.
Is there any alcohol in the Omission Non−Alcoholic Brews?
Omission Non-Alcoholic Brews contain less than 0.5% alcohol by volume.
How do you make Omission Non-Alcoholic Brews without alcohol?
We brew the same way we do our alcoholic beers, but it then goes through a reverse osmosis process that carefully reduces the amount of alcohol in the liquid while still making sure the great, fresh flavors remain.
